One of several cannon facing north near the visitor center at Antietam National Battlefield in western Maryland. We hired a guide via the National Park service and enjoyed the tour and discussion so much that a three hour tour turned into 4 and a half. Maybe a bit more. The kids were great, they definitely drifted in and out of the conversation but were clearly listening and asking questions throughout much of it.
I can't accurately describe the feeling of standing in some of these battlefields where tens of thousands of men died fighting. In the case of Antietam it was over twenty thousand in one day. Gettysburg was more, over three days.
