Depending on where you are it may be mid to late morning before direct sun gets to you in the canyons and between the mountains out West. In this case, a narrow canyon stays in the shade almost all morning as the peaks around it are lit up in this amazing morning sunlight. Many of the surrounding rock faces and cliffs were bathed in the bright light you see here, creating all sorts of very cool reflections in the stream at my feet.
This is another photo from Zion National Park, not far from the lodge where we spent the night. Of the many places I visited in the American West in the last year, Zion may be my favorite. At least until I post some photos of Bryce or Acadia then those will be my favorite.
